Jim Higginson is an educator and observer of human behaviour interacting with social environment.  His creative outlet is photography which he has been passionately interested in since high school. Travel in many areas of the world has provided the people and backgrounds for his thousands of images in his digital archives. He says that there is “this constant urge to capture images of people, objects, landscapes, and animals in their own environment that makes each stand out.” He is rarely without his Nikon DSLR hanging from his neck.

So far Jim has had two exhibits at the University of Guelph-Humber Art Gallery.  The first one was in September, 2013 themed “Learning through Experience” and the second one, which ran in September, 2015 and again in February 2016, was themed “Lives Lived: Engaging with Rural Americans.”  All images in both exhibits are examples of social context photography and feature individuals in their own environment.
